D'Angelo began acting in theater in the year 1976, when she was in Broadway in Rockabye Hamlet (also known by Kronborg:1582) the musical inspired by Shakespeare's Hamlet. Her first appearance on television was on the mini-series' pilot episode Captains and the Kings, which debuted in the year 1976. She was also in Annie Hall in 1977. D'Angelo was later to appear in a variety of hit films in the 1970s, such as Every Which Way But Loose and Hair. D'Angelo was the character as the housemother in The House Bunny and was also in the film of Tony Kaye Black Water Transit. In 2014, D'Angelo was cast with Chevy Chase for the ABC comedy pilot titled Chev & Bev. The pilot was about a couple who are retired who take care of their children. ABC did not decide to create the show into a series. 15 D'Angelo was in the role of Chevy Chase in Vacation which was a sequel to the first film which was released on July 29, 2015.
