Lewis Hamilton

Sir Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton MBE HonorFREng, a British racing driver, is currently competing in Formula One for Mercedes. Hamilton was the winner of seven World Drivers Championships in Formula One with Michael Schumacher. Hamilton also holds record for most wins (103) and pole positions (103) and podium finishes (191). Hamilton was born in Stevenage in Hertfordshire and was a part of McLaren's new driver training program in 1998. This led to a Formula One drive with McLaren from 2007 until 2012, making Hamilton the first and so far only, black racer to be a part of the race. In his first season, Hamilton set numerous records in his time as he finished second to Kimi Raikkonen by one point. The following year was his debut title in dramatic fashion--making an important overtake on the final lap of the race of the season, becoming the then-youngest Formula One World Champion in history. Hamilton quit McLaren after six years and signed with Mercedes in 2013. He was required to adopt a turbo-hybrid motor for the 2014 regulations. This marked the beginning of a period of success for Hamilton. He has since taken home another six drivers' championships. Consecutive titles came in 2014 and 2015, following a fierce rivalry with Teammate Nico Rosberg. Following Rosberg's retirement, Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel became Hamilton's closest competitor in two championship fights where Hamilton repeatedly overcame mid-season point deficits to take consecutive titles in the years 2017 and 2018. His fourth and third consecutive championships were won in 2020 and 2019 to equal the record set by Schumacher of seven driver's titles.
