Calum Hood

Calum Thomas Hood (born 25 January 1996) is an Australian musician, famous for his role as the vocalist and bassist of the group pop rock 5 Seconds of Summer. 5 Seconds of Summer has sold more than 10 million albums and sold more than two million tickets to shows around the world since 2014. The group is one of the most popular Australian musical exports. David Hood is his father and mother, both of whom were former employees of Coca-Cola. Joy Hood was a superannuation worker. Hood is of Cook Island Maori descent through his mother. Hood is the older brother of Mali Koa the singer-songwriter. Hood recalls his upbringing as being "middle-class" and "not the most glamorous lifestyle". [5] Hood attended Norwest Primary School where he was a friend of future bandmate Michael Clifford in the third grade. For his high-school education, Hood attended Norwest Christian College where he befriended the future bandmate Luke Hemmings in Year 7 after they performed a Secondhand Serenade cover at a school talent show. Through his early teens, Hood took a keen fascination with sports, specifically football (soccer) that he had the impression of having a "promising future" in, and even attended the Brazil training camp in hopes of pursuing this sport for a profession. But, following the formation of the band and due to the group's move to London in late 2012, he ultimately took the decision to leave football to instead pursue music. 8. Hood later recalled that after having quit football, "there was a period of about a month when my parents believed I had made the most rash choice of my life. My mom was the first to throw away my entire wardrobe. And I went away feeling as if I had took one of my most difficult decisions. However, it's now working out". Nine years after completing Year 12, he made the decision to quit football and dropped out of high school in the year 2012.
