Joe Biden

 Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. (/'baId@nBiden Jr. (listen) BY-d@n, born November 20, 1942) is an American politician and politician. He is the 46th and currently president of the United States. A part of the Democratic Party, he previously served as the 47th vice president from 2009 to 2017 under President Barack Obama, and represented Delaware in the United States Senate from 1973 to 2009.Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Biden moved with his family to Delaware in 1953. He attended the University of Delaware before earning his law degree from Syracuse University. After being elected to New Castle County Council in 1970, he was the 6th-youngest senator in the United States. He was 29 when he was elected into the United States Senate from Delaware in 1972. Biden was the Senate Foreign Relations Committee's chairman and the ranking member for 12 years. He chaired the Senate Judiciary Committee from 1987 to 1995; led the charge to approve the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act as well as the Violence Against Women Act; and was in charge of six U.S. Supreme Court confirmation hearings, including the contentious hearings of Robert Bork and Clarence Thomas.Biden was unsuccessful in his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination in both 1988 and 2008. Barack Obama elected Biden to serve as his running mate for the 2008 and 2012 presidential election. In his two terms as vice president under Obama, Biden frequently represented the administration in negotiations with congressional Republicans and was a frequent counselor to Obama.Biden along with his running partner, Kamala Harris, defeated incumbents Donald Trump and Mike Pence in the 2020 presidential election. On January 20, 2021, he became the oldest president in U.S. history and the first female vice president. As president, Biden has addressed the COVID-19 pandemic , and the subsequent recession. Biden was the first president to sign the American Rescue Plan Act, the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act as well as the Inflation Reduction Act. Biden signed the Respect for Marriage Act, which codified protections to couples of the same gender in the United States and repealed DOMA. He also appointed Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court. Biden's foreign policy also included restoring America's membership to the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. He completed the removal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan in the course of which the Afghan government fell apart and the Taliban gained control. He responded to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine by imposing sanctions against Russia and allowing foreign aid and weapons shipments to Ukraine.
