 Mark Elliot Zuckerberg born May 14 1984) is an American business magnate, online businessman, and philanthropist. He is known for co-founding the social media website Facebook and its parent company Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook, Inc.), of which he is the chairman, chief executive officer, and controlling shareholder.Zuckerberg attended Harvard University, where he launched Facebook in February 2004 with his roommates Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes. The site was initially launched to select colleges. The site quickly grew and eventually reached 1 billion users in 2012. Zuckerberg went public with the company in May 2012, acquiring the majority shares. He became the most successful self-made billionaire in the world at age 23. He has used his funds to fund a variety of charitable endeavors such as the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.Since 2008, Time magazine has named Zuckerberg as one of the 100 most influential people around the globe as a part of its Person of the Year awards that he was honored with in 2010. In December of 2016, Zuckerberg was ranked tenth on Forbes listing of The World's Most Powerful People. [6] According to the Forbes 400 list of wealthiest Americans in 2022, he was ranked 11th with a wealth of $57.7 billion, which was down from his position as the third-richest American in 2021 with a net worth of $134.5 billion. As per Forbes Real Time Billionaires, Zuckerberg was the 26th most wealthy person on the planet as of December 20 the year 2022. His net worth was $42.4 million. The film that focuses on the career of Zuckerberg, The Social Network, was released in 2010.Zuckerberg's position in the tech business has drawn political and legal attention. The founding of Facebook involved Zuckerberg in numerous lawsuits over the development and control of the site. In 2013, he co-founded the pro-immigration lobbying organization FWD.us. Zuckerberg was a witness before Congress on April 10, and 11, 2018, regarding the use by Facebook of personal data in connection to the Cambridge Analytica data breach.
