Gates began his career at the local label Dead Game Records in 2007. He had an enviable career working with other fellow Baton Rouge residents, Boosie Badazz and Webbie in the mid-2000s. In 2007, Gates his debut mixtape Pick of Da Litter was released by the trio. Gates released a second mixtape, All or Nuthin' in 2008. It contained "a great deal of pain...a number of real stories." Gates's music career was effectively put on hold after Boosie Gates and Boosie Gates were both imprisoned in separate instances in the year 2008. [14] Between 2008 between 2008 and the year 2011, Gates was in prison. In that time, Gates stated that he earned an advanced degree in psychology through an in-prison program. Gates was released early from prison for good behavior. He began working on music shortly following his release. The mixtape he released in 2012 called Make 'Em Believe earned him some interest. 17 years ago, he was an option for Young Money Entertainment's record label Lil Wayne. In the following year, Gates was signed to the management wing of the label. [14][1515 Gates was not signed up to the Young Money management wing. He did, however, mention that Birdman was the person that inspired him to start his own label for recording, Bread Winners' Association.
