Mehmet Cengiz Oz is an American former professor of cardiothoracic surgery at Columbia University. He was born in Wilmington, Delaware to Turkish immigrants. Oz is being a dual citizen of Turkey as well as the U.S., served 60 days in the Turkish Army in 1980s to keep his Turkish citizenship. In 1986, he started his surgical residency at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. He was appointed an Columbia University professor of surgery in 2001. In the year 2018 the professor retired as an emeritus professor. Oprah Winfrey was the very first guest on the show Second Opinion alongside Dr. Oz in 2003. In addition, he appeared more than 60 times on the Oprah Winfrey Show. The Dr. Oz Show was developed by Winfrey's Harpo Productions, and Sony Pictures Television. The show was aired for 13 seasons. Oz's promotion of pseudoscience like faith healing, and alternative therapies has been criticized by numerous medical journals and doctors.
